Saratov Kiselev Youth Theater has prepared the performance for the play “Squat” by J.-M. Chevret timed to the project “the Year of France in Russia and the Year of Russia in France” announced in 2010 with support of the French Culture Center (Moscow) and The Alliance Française Saratov.

Throughout the history of your theater plays by various French dramatists were staged: Moliere, Rostand, Dumas, Jean Anouilh, Hugo, Sent-Exupery and more. For the first time our theater is staging a modern French author - Jean-Marie Chevret with his “Squat” comedy.
Jean-Marie Chevret was born in 1953. He is one of the most popular contemporary French playwrights. His newest plays are never locked in writer’s desk – producers are impatiently waiting for them. It’s hard to imagine a theater season in Paris without premiere of his work. His plays while expressing the French atmosphere are amazingly popular all around the world. Chevret’s works acknowledgment is the same in his native country and at the international level. His play “Le Squat” was awarded with the United Nations award in 2000 and year after was nominated to the Moliere’s award. His plays are topical and actual; sometimes they even go ahead of time. They never lose this sense of time, gaining new meanings and colors in the passing of years.

The director of the performance for Chevret’s “Squat” is the artistic director of “The Free Theater” (Ukraine, Kiev) Artur Artimeniev. He graduated from the Dnepropetrovsk State Theater College in 1992 and from the Kiev State Theater Art Institute in 1997, speciality “a drama theater director” (course master – Reznikovitch M.Yu.). Staged more than 20 performances in Ukraine, Russia, Serbia. In his opinion “Squat” is a comedy a-la France and it is special because of the bright, light, sincere feelings, like sympathy, kindness, support, self-sacrificing, friendship and love hidden in the twisted, comic plot full of paradoxes. One should reveal these feelings no matter how deep they are buried.

Squat is an illegal unauthorized moving in the empty house, this phenomenon appeared in the USA.  What could you feel if once after returning to your own house you saw uninvited guests there? What happens next? See the answer in the French comedy by J.-M. Chevret “Squat” in the Saratov Youth Theater.
