“A Week of France in Saratov Kiselev Youth Theater” will take place from 4th to 8th July, 2010.

“Year of France in Russia and Russia in France”


2010 is announced to be the “Year of France in Russia and Russia in France”. As part of this major project Saratov Academic Youth Theater presents the cultural campaign “A Week of France in Saratov Kiselev Youth Theater”
    
Throughout theater’s history on its stage many performances on the plays and books by great French writers were staged: J. B. Moliere “The Bourgeois Gentlemen”, E. Rostand “La Princesse lointaine”, A. Dumas “The Three Musketeers”, Charles Perrault “Little Red Riding Hood” and “Cinderella”, Jean Anouilh “Romeo and Jeannette”, V. Hugo “Notre Dame de Paris”,  A. de Saint-Exupéry “The Little Prince” and more. In 1996 on the stage of Saratov Youth Theater actors from “The Odeon – Europe Theater” showed in French their version of the “The Little Tragedies” by A.S. Pushkin.

For years Saratov Academic Youth Theater has been cooperating with Alliance Française Saratov. In 2004 at the Chamber stage of Saratov TUZ French theater “Turak” presented the production “Four from Turakia”, the project was organized together with Alliance Française Saratov. On the 28th of June, 2008 on the Small stage the performance “The Lonlely Clown” was played, French actor Bonavanture (Lion, France) took part in it. In 2009 thanks to Alliance Française Saratov on the Small stage of Saratov Youth Theater the performance “Mademoiselle Arthur” based on Jacques Offenbach’s , Yvette Guilbert’s repertoire, and other Monmartre idols.

In current repertoire of Saratov Kiselev Youth Theater there are few performances written by French authors: philosophical tale by A. de Saint-Exupéry “The Little Prince”, the tragic farce by Eugene Ionesco “The Chairs and the Bald Soprano”, the comedy by modern French playwright J. M. Chevret “Squat”, the opening night of this performance staged by theater director A. Artimeniev took place on the 24th of December, 2009.

Another premiere “Cyrano de Bergerac” by E. Rostand is coming soon, its production is going with the great support of French Cultural Centre and Alliance Française Saratov and is part of the Year “Russia-France 2010”. The production team is from France – director Jean-Claude Fall, production designer Gerard Didier.

The cultural campaign “A Week of France in Saratov Kiselev Youth Theater” will take place from 4th to 8th July 2010. Aims of the project are – on the one hand, meeting of the Russian audience with French literature, on the other hand, meeting with the best examples of French directing.

During the Week meetings and discussions with representatives of the French creative intelligentsia, the director of the French Cultural Centre in Moscow Dominique Jambon  and the cultural attaché of the France Embassy in Moscow, coordinator of the Alliance Française Russia Elisabeth Braun. Also there will be the presentations of the repertoire performances written by French authors: J. M. Chevret “Squat” (director A. Artimeniev), A. de Saint-Exupéry “The Little Prince” (director Yu. Osherov), Eugene Ionesco “The Chairs and the Bald Soprano” (director P. Landi) and video presentations of the performances for V. Hugo “Notre Dame de Paris” (director V. Terelya), Charles Perrault “Cinderella” (director T. Pyhonina).

The culmination of the campaign will be the opening night for the “Cyrano de Bergerac” by E. Rostand on the 5th of July at 18-00 on the Big Stage of Saratov Youth Theater.
