"The most vivid and accurate measure of true theatrical children's fairy tale for me has always been and still remains "The Scarlet flower".


"Once upon a time in a beautiful land far-far away a wealthy merchant lived. He had three daughters. He loved his daughters more than his wealth, but the youngest daughter was his favorite, because she was the most beautiful and the most caring". This is how “The Scarlet Flower” begins.
The tale by S. Aksakov in 20's inspired the very first Saratov Youth Theatre Studio graduates Irina Karhaukhova and Leonid Brausevich to create the play «The Scarlet Flower». Wise and at the same time simple, magic and true-life tale entered the repertoire of the theater. The opening night of «The Scarlet Flower» took place in 1948. Director - RSFSR Artist of Merit Vladimir Davydov, production-designer - RSFSR Artist of Merit, recipient of the USSR State Prize N. A. Arkhangelsky, composer - E. Kamenogradsky. T. Then Alenushka was played by legendary Valentina Ermakova and inspirational Nadezhda Shlyapnikova.
In different periods in the performance the actors who are the pride and glory of Saratov and Russian theatre played: Zoya Spirina, Alexei Bystryakov , Oleg Balakin, Valentine Nemtsova, Valentina Stroganova, Svetlana Lavrentjeva, Tamara Lykova, Elena Vovnenko and many others.
Saratov Kiselev Youth Theatre does not want to part with "The Scarlet Flower". The play has been restored few times in our theater by the directors RF People's Actors V. Krasnov and Y.P. Osherov. Actors participating in the performance are younger, scenery and costumes are renewed, reconstructed from sketches by N. Arkhangelsky.

When we first saw the play, it made a strong impression, everyone wanted to participate. We always played "The Scarlet Flower" with pleasure. The reaction of the audience always remains so bright that it seems that performance still has a very long life ...

Everything in the performance is charming: lyricism of Russian fairy-tale, elegant scenery, beautiful music.

I remember the fairy tale "The Scarlet Flower" very well. It was magic itself.

The heroine comes down to the monster's palace from the stairs, and every step is lighted. My God, thing there could fly!

I've watched "The Scarlet Flower" four times - first as a girl, then twice as a mother, and now I came with my beloved granddaughter. Thank you for the pleasure of these meetings! I feel such delight in my heart!

For 60 years this performance has been carefully and lovingly preserved; it continues to enslave the hearts of the spectators by power of good and nobility, by his poetic charm, always colorful, magical and picturesque scenery and beautiful music. The fragile, bright and good tale about the Beauty and the Beast is still actual for us and our children.
