The opening night for the performance “The Cold Heart” based on the tale by Wilhelm Hauff took place on the big stage of the Saratov Academic Kiselev Youth Theatre on April 28, 2006.
How heartless and cruel people in power could be, how they could play  with our lives… They pamper their vanity while people are suffering…

The main character of the performance, Peter Munk, a charcoal-burner, has to make a difficult choice. The treacherous tempter Michael promises the young man fabulous treasures just  in exchange for… his living and tender heart. Or else… And Peter agrees to sell his heart for a purse full of gold pieces.

Everyday he hears how his mother is tapping with her crook calling upon her son… How his loving Liza is crying, how everyday and every hour his best friend Jacob is tortured…No one could touch a cold stone heart. It doesn’t know pain and grief. Neither could it feel joy. It isn’t able to love. Wealth doesn’t bring happiness. Peter is no longer a careless joyful person we knew. In the end he decides to get his living heart back. And then…
