Every theatre has its own significant performances that live on the stage for many years with a great success. For Saratov Kiselev Youth Theatre the performance "The Golden Key" (director - T.L. Aseikina, production-designer N.N. Epov) on the fairy tale by A.N. Tolstoy is undoubtedly one of these. Y. P. Kiselev presented his performance on "The Golden Key" to the Saratov theatre audience in distant 1971; the colorful, vivid, musical performance seemed wonderful to its little spectator's liking. And in 1999 Tatiana Aseikina, the director of the original performance, who worked then under the supervision of Y.P. Kiselev, restored the famous "The Golden Key" on the theatre stage. And now 10 years already have passed but the hall is still always full at this performance. New adventures of Buratino and his friends seem interesting not only to the young spectators but also to the adults, who still remember their childhood impression from the performance.

Such a long-living performance is a unique event in the theatre's history. New version of the performance fully re-creates the atmosphere of the original performance. But nevertheless new participating actors and time itself inevitably change the performance; they make it up-to-date and still actual for the audience. The main thing is that "The Golden Key" and its naive, honest and open characters are still bringing up the spectators who come to the performance, breaking the monotony with the bright colors and music.

The fairytale was created by the famous soviet writer A. N. Tolstoy in 1936, and as its leading character defined it as “true story about how we defeated our enemies with our wits, courage and presence of mind”. “Interesting comedy from the wooden people’s life” is close and clear to any child. It amuses him with it twisted plot, it makes children to empathize to the trials of the characters and rejoice on the victory of good and justice on the cunning and deceit of those who tried to intervene with Buratino and his friends. Alive and open-hearted characters created by A.N. Tolstoy – brave Buratino, kind Papa Karlo, always reserved and polite Malvina, sad  Pierrot, naughty Harlequin – do not preach children, but by their deeds and words makes them to think about the complex questions the writer and performance creators bring up. “The Golden Key” is a performance loved by few generations of Saratov Youth Theatre spectators.
