An Irish comedy in 9 scenes.

Love and hatred. Freedom and slavery. Beauty and ugliness. Aggression and mercy. It appears that the range of problems connected with such universal matters could be revealed in the simple story of relationships between two women. A 70-years old woman and her 40-years daughter, who is an old maid because of her mother, live in their house “on the hill” in the Irish province. How strong is daughter’s will to change her life and how ingenious is her mother in her desire to make her daughter stay by her side as a slave forever. There is a war in which it’s hard to find the guilty ones. The war with its inevitable victims. Even if it is a war between two women in the Irish house kitchen. Actual dramaturgy is a driving force for theatre, the source for it renewal. Theater of the contemporary plays is a quest not only for new answers but for new questions too. Audience has a chance to see in modern theater the reaction on the rapidly changing contemporaneity.
The play by Irish playwright Martin McDonagh has already been tried on the stage of Saratov Kiselev Theater. During the project “The Forth Height. New drama. The Other Theater” in October 2006 it was presented in form of a reading-performance. It was created by Moscow director Andrey Sanatin together with the Saratov Youth Theater actors. The aim of the project was to give to the theater and its spectators knowing of the new tendencies, new dramaturgy language and of course with new directors – in hope of the future cooperation. And this hope for cooperation has become true.
The play would deeply move everyone in the audience – family relations, painful and insoluble turn an ordinary kitchen to the battle field.
