The staging director – Ekaterina Gorokhovskaya, artistic director – Alexey Votyakov. Victor Olshansky’s play “There won’t be winter” was firstly staged in Saratov Kiselev Youth Theatre in form of a reading-performance as part of an experimental creative laboratory “Fourth Hight. Modern Children’s Dramaturgy” with the participation of our actors. The laboratory was held with the help of The Ministry of Culture of Russia, and the leading theatrical critic of Russia, Oleg Loevsky, was the chairman.

“There won’t be winter” – is an up to date fairy tale written by Olshansky in 2005. The story of the play tells us about a homeless elderly auntie Pasha who lives in an abandoned kiosque under the branches of a wise Tree in the yard of a big nine-storied apartment house. And because of her kind soul she feeds four homeless cats: One-eyed, Foxy, Spiny and the New One. Through their characters and relations issues of grown-ups and children are revealed: loneliness, love, faith in man and refusal from it, betrayal and many others. The action takes place nowadays. The show comprises in one stories of relationship between parents and children, a classic love story and a story of growing up, one about true friendship and thoughts about being true to one’s views. And all these topics are presented in a teen-version, with maximalism and simplicity of young characters; and also buying over with sincerity and authenticity of elder characters. The scenery of the play designed by Alexey Votyakov looks also quite authentic, depicting a typical city’s landscape. Gorokhovskaya left the end of the story about the non-giving up characters elusive. The play is deeply touching and moving, it appeals to the problem of social instability in modern world. Funny characters and light plot soft-corely tell spectators a simple truth: we should be more tolerant to each other. May be then winter melted by kindness of the characters will stand away.
