The first performance of the show “A Sprout” by Gorokhovskaya was held on the second (small) stage of Saratov Kiselev youth theatre in August 2008. That was the third time our theatre offered collaboration to the young and very interesting director from St. Petersburg – Ekaterina Gorokhovskaya. She wrote a script and designed the scenery especially for the new show. The performance is designed for children from 1 year and for their parents. Children are chiefly perceptive towards graphic and vivid items and issues, their imagination is boundless. It seems essential for our theatre to bring children back to basics and nature by means of artistic creation, especially nowadays when children are bombarded with information, dry logical schemes, surrounded with abiotic images and artificial materials.

The performance is dedicated to the first-begotten elements: water, fire, earth and air. Magical and mysterious sceneries and associations on this theme float before the young spectator’s eyes. There are no words in the show for it uses only music, motion and visual representation, so that children freely perceive the beauty and wholeness of the world, mutual connection of the essential elements and the beginning of life through their senses and fantasy. Mother Earth plants a seed that should soon become a flower. The growth of the seed – is a long and hard path, symbolizing the path of our soul’s growth and developing during a lifetime. During this path the sprout receives assistance from Water, Fire and Air. They can be both beautiful and dangerous, but there’s no life without them. At the end of the performance the flower spreads it’s leaves towards spectators. The genre of the performance – colorful pictures for the smallest.

The 6th International Fairytale Theatre Festival “I’m small – hello!” (literally: “Yamall – privet!”; Yamall is the name of a semi island) of a Syberian city New Urengoy took place from 18 till 23 of March 2009. The most interesting and distinguished professional theatres’s performances of Russia and other countries were presented there. Saratov kiselev Youth theatre showed one of it’s latest premiere plays - “A Sprout”. Creative laboratories for actors and directors and already a traditional seminar on working with children-participants of children’s theatrical studious were there on the Festival. The shows recognized as best by the Children’s Jury of the Festival were honored awards and prizes at the Closing night. Our theatre was awarded a Diploma in the “Magical rainbow” nomination for the most colorful and bright show.
