The opening night for the performance “Young Lady Country-Girl” by A.S. Pushkin, a musical comedy by N. Aduev and I. Kovner, took place on the stage of Saratov Academic Kiselev Youth Theater on the 8th of September, 2009.

During the “Summer in Boldin” in 1930 Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin among the other masterpieces wrote the story cycle “The Tales of the Late Ivan Petrovich Belkin”. “Young-Lady Country Girl” is one of the most romantic Belkin’s tales. In 1949 the musical comedy based on the story was created by N. Aduev, I. Kovner. The setting in the musical comedy and in the story is in the 20s, XIX century. Between the first and the second acts a month passes.

Musical, full of Russian folk song’s spirit this comedy is fully coinciding with Pushkin’s vision of folk life, beauty of Russian nature, which forms a person who is close to it, enriches us spiritually. The Lady is playing the role of Country-Girl, and it appears that in this role she feels herself more natural.  Liza Muromskaya grew up among common people, “bon ton” only makes her laugh, she prefers peasant dress and the Birchwood, where she can fell light and freedom.

Theater’s interest in Pushkin’s “ Young-Lady Country Girl ” is not incidental. The plot of the Pushkin’s story, disguise and transformation, charm of the pure and self-giving feelings are the great material for a poetic and hilarious performance. The novella is full of bright humor, light playful intonation, almost transparent atmosphere. It is thoroughly theatrical, from the intrigue and to the favorite theatre trick – disguise. And what characters, what passions are in them! What a touching melody of the everyday life, sentimental and at the same time serious could be heard in their hearts!

The performance is played by the students of the theater department of the Sobinov Saratov State Conservatory and actors of Saratov Kiselev Youth Theater.
