Characters created by the Denmark fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen are known to us all since our early childhood, but each new meeting with them absorbs and enthralls us as strong as it was for the first time. Hans Christian Andersen began as a playwright, but his first work for the theater wasn’t very successful with public. Fate of "Fairy Tales Told for Children" published in 1835 was very different, it still is one of the most popular books for children.
"Thumbelina" is a story about the tiny girl born from a flower. Her beauty often put her in danger and her kind heart helped to find her own salvation, met her prince and became a fairy elf queen. "Thumbelina's" stage version offered by Saratov Kiselev Youth Theater is only partly following Andersen's plot. It's second title is "And Where is a Prince?". After waking up in her flower far from the elf country Thumbelina is yearning for a Prince who is meant to wait for her in all his glory and beauty. Blinded by the distant dream she could not notice soft glowing of the loving heart near her. In her search Thumbelina will live through lots of adventures and will decide her fate on her own. The play is about the problem of choice, responsibility for one's actions, it teaches to love and worship what we have - for it is often much brighter than all incredible dreams.
Saratov Kiselev Youth Theater's performance in its version of the famous fairy tale by Andersen deepens character's images, modernizes them. The Mouse who is always busy with her debts, rich and inflated Mole, who thinks only about his profit, naughty little Frog are types you can see not only in the tale.
"Thumbelina" is a bright colorful fantasy for the youngest spectators, full of laughter and joy. There is beautiful music composed by Anatoly Katz and melodious poems written by Svetlana Kekova. Actors:
