Press-release. On the 5, 6 of May, 2010 the opening night of the performance "Tomorrow Was the War" based on Boris Vasilyev’s story will take place in the Saratov Kiselev Youth Theater.

Saratov Kiselev Youth Theater presents the performance “Tomorrow Was the War” by  B. Vasilyev dedicated to the 65th anniversary of Victory in the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War.

Boris Lvovich Vasilyev came from the generation that was destined to mature during the War. He got in the lines when he was a ninth grader, from his age mates only few ones made it back home. His first serious literature works were few plays, that went almost unnoticed, then he wrote screenplays, worked on TV. He became a well-known writer after the publication of the story “The Dawns Here Are Quiet” in 1969. B. Vasilyev’s prose is influenced by his early experience in drama and can be seamlessly brought on the stage. Dramatization of one of his most famous stories “Tomorrow Was the War” was made for Saratov Kiselev Youth Theater by the theater’s actress Elena Krasnova, she has staged her play together with Victoria  Samokhina.

“Tomorrow Was the War” is one of the most interesting and shrilling works by B. Vasilyev about war. It is a unique story – its characters are pupils of the ninth grade, they do not know that their lives tomorrow would be crossed by the War. They experience their first love, try to overcome their first loss and grief, they grow up and worry about each other, they argue and learn to behave themselves. Tomorrow War for them was yesterday for readers – it makes one value today even more. Boris Vasilyev makes us think about the importance of our lives, feelings and decisions.  

The production team of the performance “Tomorrow Was the War” is known to the audience for their work in “The Lady with a Dog” by A.P. Chekhov. Young directors showed their ability to perform a deep analysis of the prosaic text, finding there rich drama material. New performance makes emphasis on the characters and fates in their complex relations with time. Panhuman, atemporal from the story is brought to the front in the performance for audience to think about the greatest tragedy characters faced. Performance is dedicated to the memory of those young boys and girls that wasn’t able to come back from the War, those whose first impression of adult life became the last. Actors participating in the performance: RF Merit actors Olga Kutina, Nina Panteleeva, Alexander Fedorov and young theater actors.
