In April 2012 Saratov Kiselev Youth Theater presents the main theater event of the season – the first opening night on the Big Stage of the new theater’s building! On the 20, 21, 22, 23 and 29 April at 18-00 the first performances of «The Captain’s Daughter» (a play by A.Ya. Shapiro based on A.S. Pushkin’s novel “The Captain’s Daughter”), director – A.Ya. Shapiro, production-designer – Yu.F. Kharikov, lighting designer – M. Shavdatuashvili, video designer – A. Lapshin, choirmaster – V. Samokhina, fighting scenes staged by A. Fedorov.

All citizens of Saratov and Saratov Region have received a priceless gift — the construction of the new building for the oldest professional youth theater is finally over. The most cherished dream of Yu. P. Kiselev who was the irreplaceable leader of the theater for more than half of a century has come true. But the real opening of a theater happens when the first production on the new stage appears in the repertoire. Adolf Yakovlevich Shapiro promised to Yury Pertovich Kiselev to stage “The Captain’s Daughter” in the Big Saratov Youth Theater building and now after a quarter of a century the long-awaited opening-night will take place.

In 1974 Yu. P. Kiselev had already staged Pushkin’s novel in our theater. The choice of “The Caiptain’s Daughter” with its epigraph “Take care of your honor from a tender age” for the New Stage opening is not incidental. Pushkin’s novel seems very important and meaningful from the point of view of the modern spectators in connection with today’s life.

Pushkin wrote “The Captain’s Daughter” together with the historical research “The Story of the Pugachev’s Rebellion”, the novel was published in 1836 in the Sovremennik magazine. Critic A.A.Grigoryiev, the author of the famous saying “Pushkin is everything for us” saw “The Caiptain’s Daughter” as a “The Grinevs family chronicle”, the novel describing “manners of an earlier time” that Pushkin promised to write one day in the Trird Capter of his “Eugene Onegin”, On the of the greatest works of Russian literature, the story of Petrusha Grinev and Captain Mironov’s family is still actual and edgy.
